A Three Act Play...

Act One...The Big Bang

They say that the bad things in life generally come in threes. I'm not entirely sure who they is specifically, but thats for a different post.

Saturday, May 21.

We had just left The Great Indoors, after comparing prices on laundry equipment for our new house. I had picked up tickets for Star Wars Episode III and we were heading over to the local megaplex to catch Lucas' final installment, and had planned to grab a quick dinner at Grinder's, a local sub chain that specializes in oven-toasted goodness.

We sat at the light at Sancus and Worthington Woods Blvd for what seemed like forever. Part of the road we were turning onto was dug up and was populated with the familiar orange cones of infinite construction. I decidedly turned wide, so I could turn onto Worthington Woods at a better angle. Then I heard the screaching of tires. Then the loud bang..

Our Honda jolted to the side and the impact threw us around the compartment. It took me a millisecond to realize what had happend. I looked over at Kate. She was fine..just rattled.

I pulled over into the construction area and jumped out to see who had just rammed us. It was some nimrod in a NAPA truck. He claimed he didn't see my turn signal.... and blamed the loose gravel in the road for his inability to stop.

We were fine, but Indy was damaged pretty badly. The trunk was pushed in and the bumper was pretty much destroyed. Luckily, none of the damage affected the gas tank or any systems.

I took her to the body shop to get an estimate last week. $3400 dollars roughly. The insurance company for the NAPA guy cut us a check for the amount and got us a Jeep Liberty rental to drive around for a week while she was getting repaired.

The worst part was... when I got to work Monday, I had multiple voicemails and phone calls from attorneys, health care offices, and body shops. When attending the final walk through at our new house on Tuesday, there was already a large stack of mail from local attorneys wanting my case. Where do these people get this information? Apparently, whenever a police report is issued... vultures for these companies get daily copies of them and use them as leads for potential lawsuits and jobs. And people wonder why insurance rates are always going up...
