My Dad
I think that maybe my first two ultra-liberal posts may have offended my dad. I was hoping they wouldn't. I love my parents, though we don't agree on everything, including politics! But that's okay, right?
I actually really like and respect my father. I think he raised us in not always the best of economic situations and did a great job of instilling in us love, responsibility (although I didn't really catch on to that until later), and compassion.
Recently, it really dawned on me as to how proud I was of my father. You see, my dad has worked at a private aeronautical company for many years now. Although he is extremely smart, he didn't really have the necessary post-graduate education to work in aerospace engineering, but someone who knew someone at my dad's company decided to take a chance on him anyway. My dad also had a mild stroke six or seven years ago which threatened his future, his employment and his life. He worked through therapy and went right back to work. That being said, this past year, my father was one of the engineers on the Space Ship One project. In fact, he was involved with the propulsion systems for the craft... so I guess that would make him a rocket scientist... right? Space Ship One broke several records last year, and won the Ansari X Prize by being the first privately funded space craft to break the 62 mile edge of space and return to earth twice in the span of two weeks. It will soon be hanging in the National Air and Space Museum, along with my dad's and the rest of the project's signatures. That's damn cool.

Here's to you dad! I love you and hope you don't think I'm some red-blooded Commie!
Thanks for the ca-doos. I'm proud of my kids, all of you. You are making it in the world, tough as it may be. You know the kid next door, Justin, is your age, and still lives with his parents? No job, other than possibly selling drugs when no one is looking.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't think you are a red commie. Just somewhat miss-led. You complain about the excessive spending by the Republicans. Don't die of shock -- I agree! They have let us down. But it doesn't make sense to leap to the other side, which given the chance would even spend more, and raise taxes. These are a 2003 rating of all the house and senate members. The higher the number - the less pork the member voted for. If you average by party the scores (these are facts now, not party rhetoric) the Senate Republicans score 73, the Democrates score 20. In the house, the Republicans average 75, the Democrates 19.
Bush has let us down too. But he can't do to much about Congress, except veto it all and shut down the government. That would be sucide. The Liberal courts took away the Presidents ability to line item veto.
Bush has especially let us down with border security. But again, the democrates want an open border too.
So why - - why jump out of the frying pan into the fire?
I see you found my blog. I actually got it running on my own server. It took me less than an hour to get the cgi software installed and configured, which surprised me.
Love ya.
